Flight Report: Delta 757-300 Atlanta (ATL) to Las Vegas (LAS)

Instead of traveling to Hawaii this summer, which were our original plans, we had the chance to travel out West to Las Vegas (for 2 nights) and Lake Tahoe (for 1 week). This flight was my first aboard a 757-300 as well as being my first trip to Las Vegas. In Las Vegas, we stayed at the Mandalay Bay, which had some great views of the strip and the airport.

Delta Flight 1580 Information:
  • Flight: Atlanta Hartsfield International Airport (ATL) to Las Vegas Mccarran International Airport (LAS)
  • Flight Time: 3 hours 36 minutes
  • Aircraft: Delta Air Lines Boeing 757-300 (N589NW)
  • Seat: 41A (window)

We had a 2 hour layover in Atlanta and decided to grab something to eat. We got some food from Qdoba and found a nice area to sit by Gate 18 (Terminal A). While we were eating, our plane pulled up. You can see this in the first photo below. In the second, you can see the window where we ate and took the first photo:

Here is our route of flight including altitude and speed:

Here is a photo of my seat on the Delta 757-300, 41A (window). I was lucky on this flight to get a window seat. Flying across West across the United States, I saw everything from dormant volcanoes to meteor craters to the Grand Canyon.

Descending into Las Vegas, the right side of the plane had views of the Grand Canyon (photo 1 below), and the left side had a view of the Hoover Dam (photo 2 below):

Taxiing off the runway after landing in Las Vegas, there was a good view of the Vegas Strip. You can see the gold Mandalay Bay on the left (this is where we stayed):

Before de-planing, I talked with the woman who was seated behind me, in 42A (window). She told me that (at 50+ years old) this was her first flight. She said that she loved the "awesome views" flying across the country. For a first flight, this wasn't a bad one to be on!

  1. Good pics and story, Swayne! I have a funny one about Meteor Crater that you saw, which hit earth over 10,000 years ago...

Our PHX arrival used to fly us right over Meteor Crater. One time, we invited a new Flight Attendant up front to see the crater, which sits about a 1/4 mile south of I-40. She saw the crater and the road, and after a minute said...

"Wow, good thing the meteor didn't hit the highway!"
